Headache is a very common condition that can have many different causes. There are various types of pain: throbbing, stabbing, pounding, nagging or nasty headache. The type of pain and its intensity varies by type of headache.
The most common types are:
- Tension headache: a crushing, constrictive pain on both sides of the head, or like a tight band around the head.
- Migraine: a severe form of headache, which comes in attacks with a clear beginning and an end, possibly causing nausea and vomiting.
- Medication overuse headache: headache which is caused by taking too much painkillers for a long period of time.
- Cluster headache: a relatively rare, but extremely severe form of attackwise headache.
